Shaun Cogdill, Parking Department

This
year, the Employee Recognition Board reviewed and recognized seven
worthy nominations for Employee of the Quarter acknowledgement, with one
recommendation deemed as exceptionally worthy of commendation.
Driving
to work on the morning of October 11, Shaun Cogdill of the Parking
Department came up on a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on
Highway 441 South, commonly referred to as the Spur. Shaun pulled over
and assisted in getting the car, which had been involved in an accident,
off the roadway as 911 was called.
At that
point, Shaun realized the passenger in the car was unconscious and
having great difficulty breathing. Drawing on his training as a
volunteer with the Caton’s Chapel Fire Department and Sevier Search and
Rescue, Shaun knew he had to get a better airway established. Taking
care to maintain a proper C-spine position for the passenger, he
positioned the victim to clear the airway and rendered assistance until
help arrived. The patient was airlifted to Knoxville and from all
reports is doing well.
In recognition and
appreciation of his life-saving training and his willingness to stop to
render aid to an accident victim in distress, Shaun Cogdill of the
Parking Department is deserving and hereby recognized as the 2011
Employee of the Year.
