Exceptional City Employees

 2009 Employee of the Year

Jay Bourne Water PlantEmployee of the Year 2009!

The Employee Recognition Board is comprised of one representative from each City Department, as appointed by the Department Head. Among the Board’s responsibilities is the review of employee nominations for Employee of the Quarter and Unit of the Quarter, and the final recommendation of honorees. This year, the Employee Recognition Board reviewed and recognized eleven worthy nominations for Employee of the Quarter acknowledgement, with one recommendation deemed as exceptionally worthy of commendation.

While on duty, Jay Bourne, Water Plant Operator, received a 4 a.m. phone call reporting a broken water line in the basement of an overnight rental unit located in a Planned Unit Development.

Jay advised the complainants that they would have to call the rental company to contact the Development’s personnel to turn the water off at that location since the break occurred on private property and he was not authorized to call out any Utility Maintenance Department personnel. Later, the complainants called back in a panic as Jay’s shift was ending, so he went out of his way and assisted the visitors at the site on his way home.

In recognition of his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to assist visitors to our area, Jay Bourne is deserving and hereby recognized as the 2009 Employee of the Year.
