Employee of the Second Quarter 2010 Rodney
Hurst – Recreation Department
On
several occasions, Rodney has filled in for staff in the bowling center
or monitor office to help out his co-workers, and most recently he
willingly volunteered to cover two consecutive Friday night bowling
center shifts in April when a fellow employee called in sick. In
recognition of his compassion, unselfishness, and strong dedication to
teamwork within the Recreation Department, Rodney Hurst is deserving and
hereby recognized as the 2010 Employee of the Second Quarter.

Water Department
In
response to a request by the Chamber of Commerce to provide a drinking
water station and explain the purification process at the recent Earth
Day Festival, Utilities Manager Dale Phelps assigned the task to
supervisors Dale Reagan and Randy Haynes, who researched two projects:
the cost of tap water versus bottled water, and reducing bottled water
waste by drinking tap water.
Dale Reagan and daughter Chelsea created an information board
that highlighted the two concepts as well as additional information
panels and handouts. Copies of the most recent Water Quality Report for
the City’s water system were made available. Randy Haynes printed out
and laminated various City logo’s to help identify the booth and
provided coolers for storage of the ice water. Both men participated in
the set-up and operation of the booth during the Earth Day Festival and
provided relevant information to attendees.

Police
Department
On
April 3, members of the Gatlinburg Police Department and supporters of
Gatlinburg Community Oriented Police Program conducted the third annual
Easter Egg Hunt for the community, in particular children. The event was
planned and organized by key members of GCOPP, who volunteered their
time to ensure that the children had a wonderful experience. The hunt
was financed through donations with no direct cost to the

recognition of the dedication of its members to building prosperous,
positive relationships within the community, the Gatlinburg Police
Department is deserving and hereby recognized as a 2010 Unit of the
