Fire Investigation Inspectors Office Public Education

The fire prevention division is complied of the Fire Marshall, fire inspectors office and the Public Education Prevention program.

Fire Marshall Kenneth OgleKenneth Ogle is certified by the State of Tennessee's Fire Marshall's Office as a Fire Marshall and Arson Investigator and is also certified by Tennessee's Fire Codes Enforcement Agency as an Inspector.  Ogle has training in law enforcement and has been through Tennessee's State police academy.

Ogle conducts commercial fire inspections throughout the city.  He checks to make sure that the businesses in the city limits conform to the fire codes and that the building is safe.

In the event of a fire, Ogle is the lead Arson/Fire Investigator.  Kenneth and the Fire Chief have developed a Fire Investigation Task Force to conduct investigations in a timely and efficient manner.

The Fire Investigation Task Force is made up of about 10 people including the Fire Marshall.  Where only 2 of the 10 people are certified fire investigators, the other 8 people train monthly on topics such as introduction to fire investigation, arson detection, pour patters and fire fatalities.  When there is a fire in the city, the task force forms to help collect evidence and investigate the fire scene.

Fire Inspectors Office

Although the Inspectors have individual roles throughout the department, they work closely with each other and the building and planning department to complete each inspection.  Inspections include sprinkler systems, stand pipe systems and life safety issues.  The inspectors are also responsible for insuring the property maintenance codes.  So whether it is commercial, tourist-residency or planning, the inspectors must work with several other city departments to complete their inspections.

Fire Inspector Ralph RamseyRalph Ramsey is certified by the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy as a Fire/Building Inspector.  His primary role is to review building plans inside the city for fire code compliance.  He also oversees the maintenance and assists with repairs on the city's flood warning system, supervises the hydrant maintenance program and responds to fire and EMS emergencies as needed.

Fire Inspector Johnny Townsend
Fire Inspector Johnny Townsend is certified with the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy.  His role in the inspectors division  is to inspect all of the overnight rental properties to ensure that they are compliant with the city's fire codes and the proper safety
equipment is in place.

Public Education Fire Prevention Safety Officer, Amanda Ogle

Amanda Ogle is Gatlinburg's Public education/Fire Safety Officer.  She coordinates public classes on different topics of fire safety.

A landmark was reached 2006, when every student at Ph Beta Phi Elementary School had the opportunity to participate in fire prevention classes.  The topic for classes nationally was "Watch what you heat."   This was to educate students on cooking hazards.  The seventh and eighth grade classes had the opportunity to learn how to operate fire extinguishers properly.

The students at Pittman Center Elementary had the opportunity to go through the "Kids Fire Safety House", a mobile camper sized house that gives children a hands on opportunity to see hazards at home and learn what to do in case they see or smell smoke or if a smoke detector is activated.
