The
Gatlinburg Fire Department Honor Guard was organized in 2006 by
authorization of the Fire Chief. Our inaugural six man unit
consists of Firefighters Michael Clemmons, Randy
Williams, John Bridges, John Mathews and David Puckett. With
the formation of this unit the initial training hours approximated
fifty and regular training periods now occur to maintain unit
readiness for the representation of the department in any
authorized official capacity. The drill utilized is a
compilation of United States military service experience with
drill movements and techniques. This drill is then
instructed by both Firefighters Clemmons and Williams to the
unit. Resources include military manuals of drill, the
national flag standard and the fire department protocols as stated
by the National Fire Academy. Furthermore, the Honor Guard
is a result of pride, dedication and deep honor towards our
brothers and sisters in the armed forces of the United States and
emergency service providers everywhere.
Within
the performance of our honor guard duties, our department Class A
uniform is worn and trimmed with authorized additions befitting an
Honor Guard. A minimum of four firefighters comprise a
detail for our Honor Guard. In some instances all six
members may be present for an outstanding presentation of the
colors of the United States and the State of Tennessee.
These two standards are proudly carried in the center of the
formation and accompanied on the flanks by two chrome plated pick
head axes with hickory handles.
We
proudly provide an Honor Guard for our own Fire Department
functions, special ceremonies within the city, and visiting
emergency service conferences among other functions. We
would like to extend a special thanks to the Gatlinburg American
Legion and the members of our community who supported our efforts
during the initial formation of our unit. |
