ISO
stands for Insurance Services
Organization. ISO studies and
analyzes data and rates products and
organizations. The Fire
Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) is
the manual ISO uses in reviewing the
fire-fighting capabilities of individual
communities. The schedule measures
the major elements of a community's
fire-suppression system and develops a
numerical grading called a Public
Protection Classification (PPC™).
Ten percent of the rating is based on
how well fire departments respond to
emergency fire calls. Fifty
percent is based on how many engine
companies and the amount of water a
community needs to fight a fire. The remaining forty percent is based on
the community's water supply, (from
www.iso.com).
The
City of Gatlinburg currently has an
ISO
rating
of 3, which is thanks to the many
divisions in the fire department:
fire, rescue, EMS, inspectors, training,
fire prevention/public education and the
hydrant divisions.
Gatlinburg Fire/EMS Department is one of only
four departments in Tennessee that run both fire and EMS with a class A ambulance service, so a lower ISO rating
means a lot to such a department and to the citizens of the city.
Gatlinburg's citizens get a lower rate
of insurance due to our ISO rating.
