| The
primary purpose of the Department of Recreation is to provide leisure
time activity for Gatlinburg residents and visitors in accordance with
their expressed recreational and educational interests. The
Recreation Director has operational and maintenance responsibility for
Mynatt Park, Mills Park and Herbert Holt Park and the Community
Center. The director has operational responsibility for the recreational
use of these facilities and is expected to coordinate with the use of
those facilities with other departments and agencies including the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, Pi Beta Phi Elementary school and the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This Department is also
responsible for maintaining Gatlinburg's Tree City USA status and for
landscaping around all City Buildings, traffic islands, and street
right-of-ways. In addition, it is responsible for maintaining all
flower boxes located along the Parkway and River Road. Funding for
Public Restrooms and the Trout Rearing Facility are established in the
Recreation Departmental Budget.

The Gatlinburg Recreation Department is made up of several components that work
together to provide our citizens and visitors to our city a pleasant leisure
experience. Three City parks, a 52,000 square feet community center, trout fishing
in City waters, and the landscaping of all City-owned properties are offered to enhance
the beauty of our City and to diversify recreation opportunities.
