Written Examination

A written examination is administered to Police Officer and Jailer/Dispatcher candidates to ensure they possess the necessary comprehension abilities to perform those jobs. The test is a standardized examination developed by IPMA for use by law enforcement agencies. Candidates must make a score of 70% or better to pass.

Physical Agility Test

Map of the physical agility test. A physical agility test is administered to Police Officer and Jailer/Dispatcher candidates to ensure they possess the necessary physical attributes to perform those jobs. The test is similar to the Tennessee POST Commission physical agility test required during the basic recruit academy. Candidates are scored on a Pass/Fail scale. The test is given the same day as the written examination for those who pass the written examination.

The course is 400 yards long and must be completed in under 3 min. 15 sec. No candidate can miss more than 1 obstacle. Anyone who misses 2 obstacles fails the course. There is a 10 sec. penalty for a missed obstacle and a 2 min. penalty for "no effort" on an obstacle.
