| Personnel in the Gatlinburg Sanitation Department are on
duty 364 days a year and are responsible for business and residential
trash pickup throughout the City of Gatlinburg. |
| Due to Gatlinburg's tourist industry the volume of trash
during times of peak visitation can be enormous and our mountainous
terrain can make it challenging for trucks to maneuver, especially
during winter months. However, on a daily basis, Sanitation crews
can be seen moving throughout the city disposing of the seemingly
endless mounds of trash. |
| After collection, trash is taken to a transfer station
located behind the Waste Water Treatment Plant, deposited into another
truck and taken to the Sevier County Landfill located on Ridge Road in
Pigeon Forge. The process of collection, transfer and dumping,
mostly unseen by the public, is critical to Gatlinburg's standard of
cleanliness. |
| Residential crews work Monday through Friday from 7:30
a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and if requested to do so, will pick up junk items
at no additional charge. Pickup for dumpsters occurs 7 days a week
from 3:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Approximately 490 dumpsters are located
within Gatlinburg and are serviced from once a week to daily depending
on commercial curbside pickup, an accompanying page within this website
has been created which defines the regulations and schedule for this
type of garbage pickup. Please see Commercial Pickup for complete
information., |
| Also within this website, you will find information
pertaining to the City of Gatlinburg's Animal Proof Enclosure
requirements. This requirement was effective June 1, 2000 and
defines areas that must have this type of enclosure. For more
information regarding these guidelines, please see the Animal Proof
Enclosures page within this website. |
| If you have any questions about pickup schedules or
dumpsters, please call the Sanitation Department at (865) 436-5959. |
